EDZ’s work includes fundamental and applied research on dynamic processes - viscous flow, relaxation, liquid phase separation, and crystallization kinetics - and properties of glasses and glass-ceramics.

Zanotto has published over 300 original and review papers, 24 book chapters, 3 books, 5 book prefaces, and filled 27 patents. He has advised circa 60 post-graduate theses and 20 post-doctoral researchers.

EDZ delivered over 400 conference presentations, including approximately 150 invited talks and 30 plenary talks. He has received 51 science and technology awards in the past 4 decades.

He is an editor of the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, and Advisory Board Member of 9 journals: International Materials Reviews, S-Nature Applied Sciences, International Journal of Applied Glass Science, Bio-Medical Glasses, Ceramics Modern Technologies, Materials Research, Bulletin Sociedad Espanhola Ceramica y Vidrio, Iranian Journal of Materials Science and Technology, and Cerâmica.

Prof. Zanotto is a member of both the Brazilian and the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), World Academy of Ceramics; and Fellow of the Society of Glass Tech, UK, American Ceramic Society, and Brazilian Ceramic Society.
